Hi, my name is Siobhan Kowalik, I’m an American illustrator and graphic designer residing in the Netherlands. I have worked as a creative in some capacity for many years and have formal training in graphics, and I recently realized my various skills could all be housed under one studio roof, which has shaped what may business looks like today.

 

I started my company a few years ago while living in Amsterdam, admittedly with very different goals and ideas. The last couple years ended up throwing a lot of life challenges my way; big losses, insecurity, huge life changes that thew my personal life into many unforeseen directions. For a while, I lost sight of what I wanted to do, and struggled to understand what I wanted my career to become. As someone who has had a lot of different types of gigs and work experiences, I realized I wanted to create a cohesive brand for myself. I’m an artist, I’m a designer, I’m a big talker and a bigger thinker. The process has turned out so much better than I could have imagined.

 

Instead of fighting my inner demons, I started drawing them. I have a particular interest towards historical art that pops up frequently in my own design aesthetic, and I’ve enjoyed combining all these interests into something that I feel is truly delightful and unique. This interest in creating characters and fun illustrations isn’t new, I’ve incorporated illustration into my professional life for as long as I’ve been working. I love it as a personal motif and a constant subject matter for creating new art and products. However, in the process, I realized that my background in graphic design combined with the experience of reinventing myself so many times has led me to have a unique skill set that allows me to offer that experience to other individuals and businesses who are maybe too expansive to see themselves as being in one box.

 

The Baroque Heart is a studio where I can still show and create products of my personal art, but in addition, I’m able to offer my skills as a designer, an illustrator, a pattern maker, and perhaps most importantly, my ability to guide others to a cohesive vision of their own businesses. I am able to use my creative skills to offer design solutions, and my expansive life experience to help drive it home.

 

When I’m not doodling, designing or writing unforgettable copy, I’m lifting weights, playing DnD or finding myself in large gatherings trying to make friends with everyone in the room.
